TPJ TAKEOVER // Izzy Stocks

We've passed control once again, this time to a very talented young writer, the lovely Izzy Stocks of www.vintagebeautyxox.blogspot.co.uk

She's taken over our blog to tell us about her style inspiration - Diane Kruger. We equally obsess over Kruger's independent eclectic style so we absolutely agree with Izzy, we NEED Diane's Closet! Here's a little bit about Izzy....

I'm Izzy and I'm thrilled to be guest blogging for The Pretty Junk. I'm 20 years old and am heading into my final year of a Creative Writing degree at Roehampton University in London, though home is Kent, and I'm a real countryside girl at heart. In a nutshell, I adore Parisian designers, romance novels, vintage treasures, funky wallpapers and gigging with my boyfriend!

What would Diane Wear?

To me, Diane Kruger is a Pretty Junk gal. The German-born, French speaking, Elite model turned Hollywood actress radiates the demeanour of a vintage/alternative loving female. “What can I say? I don’t know about style. I know about my personal style,” Diane replies when asked by Glamour Magazine to talk fashion. Her laidback attitude and personality-telling wardrobe coincide with The Pretty Junk philosophy; that fashion does not exist in a single dress, but is actually reflected through the way we live and what is happening.

Diane’s outfit choices undoubtedly mirror what is happening for her; she freely admits that fashion pulls at her heartstrings- “I can remember moments in my life- my mood, how I felt- through these clothes”. Whether she’s channelling a Mick Jagger tee and cowboy boots (April’s Coachella style hit), an out-there tuxedo or her trademark baker-boy cap and contrasting full-skirted frock, Diane oozes reassurance that she’s comfortable in her own skin. Her absence of stylist is barely prominent, yet it can only be a great thing, as it’s practically charter that every piece she picks from her closet is a form of self-expression. With front-of-the-queue access to the hottest designer picks, it’s no wonder Diane wants to play dress up on her own terms. However, she is refreshingly down-to-earth, favouring past season and recycled pieces; “I completely geek out when it comes to couture. It shows fashion as it used to be,” Diane revealed in Glamour this year. The revelation of her best ever designer buy- a Hermès Constance bag which she saved and saved for and over which she sweated upon purchase, despite her A-list status!- showcases her eagerness to mix and match modern and old, catwalk-polished and thrifty-hip.

Diane rejects a glamorous label, instead referring to herself as a school outcast come tomboy, with an obsession with Bounty bars instead of calorie-counting. She balances sexy with demure, experimenting with her inner bohemian and punk goddesses (think that hot pink dip-dyed updo at May’s Met Ball!) From sixties vixen to neon green tie-dye, Diane’s style file is packed with inspirational looks. Her wardrobe means business, yet it is bursting with energy and character that makes me think she would inevitably be a Pretty Junk junkie.

So, what would Diane don from the collection? I can see the Alexa cut-offs and Burn Out Rose Kimono in her virtual festival shopping basket, and the Vintage Motorcycle T-shirt would be a fitting addition to her stash of edgy tees. She’d snap up the Lust dress for nights on the Boulevard and the Silver Dipped Citrine Necklace and a stack of PJ metal bracelets would be her go-with-everything accessories.

Naming her favourite hang-out not as The Ritz, but as the hipster 101 coffee shop on LA’s Franklin Avenue, and claiming that when she’s in the cite de l’amour she dreams in Parisian, this gal’s the kind of quirky vintage-seeker I’d love to hang with.

TPJ TAKEOVER // Maybe It's Megan Leigh

We're letting our super talented fans takeover our blog over the next few months and we couldn't be more stoked to introduce them to you.

First of our guest bloggers is 23 year old Megan Leigh of www.maybeitsmeganleigh.blogspot.co.uk from South East London.
Megan is a beauty therapist and make-up artist who for the past three years has been pretty unwell with a chronic illness called P.O.T.S. Taking time out from work has given Megan time to talk about her love of fashion and beauty on her own blog. We love Megan's style and her awesome nail art skills so we're super excited to share her nail tutorial inspired by our super cute neon baseball t-shirts! Remember to visit her blog for other cool D.I.Ys.

******

Hey guys, today I am going to show you a step by step nail art tutorial. this is inspired by my two fave baseball Tee's from theprettyjunk.com the Lets ride home girl' & 'miss universe'. The Tees are both bright, cute, girlie & quirky just like this nail art design.

Each nail is painted to look like they're covered in hundreds & thousands sprinkles, using bright pastel coloured polishes. With an accent nail of an ice cream cone filled with fruity ice-cream & topped with even more sprinkles. Sound good to you? Then follow my step by step tutorial!

1. Apply a base coat. Followed by two coats of a lilac colour polish to each nail apart from the ring finger, which you paint a ice-cream cone colour.

2. Next we are going to paint on the sprinkles, using a small headed dotting tool. Dip into coloured polish. Press the dotting tool against the nail & gently drag the dotting tool against the nail to create a sprinkle.
3. Now to paint the ring finger. Dip the long haired nail art brush into a dark brown polish. Drag along the nail making three lines in one direction, then repeat crossing the lines across the already painted on lines, to create a ice cream cone effect.

4. Still on the ring finger. Use a large headed dotting tool, dip into the lilac coloured varnish. Make three large dots half way down the nail, then slightly lifting the tool off the nail dragging upwards to the end of the nail bed. Join the lines together using the dotting tools.
5. When polish is dry, repeat step 2 on the ice cream on the ring finger
6. Apply a top coat & cuticle oil if desired.

Polishes used – Barry M – Lychee, Mushroom, Bright Pink, Mint green,
Turquoise & China Glaze - Electric Pineapple.

I hope you like this easy D.I.Y nail tutorial :)

New Spring '13 Lazy Oaf LOVE

I've been an avid fan and stockist of Lazy Oaf since our opening in 2011. To be completely honest, they hold a special place in my heart being our first brand I got on board at The Pretty Junk, and the people who run it are as cool as their clothing would suggest.

Lazy Oaf have just released their Spring '13 Lookbook and a selection of the season will be available at the new look www.theprettyjunk.com at the end of this month!
